Low cost: using steel for a pre-fabricated metal boat storage building is a low-cost alternative to lumber. you can expect to save 40-60% on materials and erection costs. you can expect to save 40-60% on materials and erection costs.. Re: building a steel boat i think your costs are very optomistic ,unless you enjoy building rather than sailing i suggest you take a look at two boats on the leemarine.com website.first one is a mason 32 steel hulled boat which appears very good value, the other is a kingston 39 which is an alloy version of a endurance 35.both appear to be. Boat building requires enough space, under cover, so that the builder can easily move around the hull during construction, or the boat can be built on a trailer so the hull can be moved out of the shelter for construction sessions..
Hi everyone, just have a quick question and hope to get your advise. for the net weight of 20tons steel material (before cutting and nesting), to build grt 50 boat (light ship only).. Steel is usually sold in quantity by weight. that's why for each steel design we provide an estimate of the weight of the steel hull components. simply use this figure times the cost of steel per pound in your area to arrive at a reasonable estimate for hull material costs.. Still an aluminum boat, all told, costs roughly 5 to 15 percent more to build than a steel one. though it takes less time, it also takes more skill to build an aluminum boat. welding aluminum is a sophisticated process requiring special gas-shielded equipment..
