Find great deals on ebay for transom extension. shop with confidence.. As some of you know, i'm in the process of designing my next offshore boat. i have been planning to make it 22 foot with an additional 2 foot with an extended transom. this extension would be a full continuation of the hull, chine to chine. not a floatation box or gill bracket. this setup would give me 24' of planning surface.. By extension,i meant make two thicknesses of ply that would fit against the transom on the outside like a motor board that you see on hydros or outside of aluminum boats, from down low against the cap & up past the top of the existing transom.
Adding a transom extension with room for more gear will add even more weight in the stern. if you want to improve the sailing qualities of the boat, you might consider removing the genset. in such a small boat you would probably be better off with a honda 2000 portable genset.. Re: my homemade transom extender i have read that the cav plate should be level with the bottom of the boat for best performance. the measurement on my 25hp merc from the mounting bracket (bottom side) to the cav plate is 21 1/2". my new higher transom will give the cav plate measurement of 21 1/2" . should work.. Video on how a long shaft motor can work on a short transom using a transom elevator..
